Trevor Shoesmith

What podcast or book inspires you?
I enjoy reading non-fiction books, particularly about historical adventures (eg. "Chasing Shackleton" or “Unbroken"). On a different note, “Switch”, by Chip and Dan Heath, was an interesting read around learning what motivates people to change.

What is a Comox Valley trail that you would recommend?
Hard to pick just one…would depend on whether it was a hot day and my kids were in need of a swim versus itching for a mountain bike ride or an overnight backpacking adventure.

Describe a project that you were passionate about.
Definitely partnering with my wife to raise our two wonderful kids…well most days they’re wonderful anyways!

What is one thing that you are grateful for when you provide maternity care?
I am grateful for the chance to work with my amazing and supportive call group colleagues, as well as the excellent CVH maternity nurses and specialists. Being part of the Highland Maternity Group helps me maintain a better work-life balance, while feeling completely confident that my patients will be well taken care of on days when I am not on call.

Describe a snapshot of an ordinary moment at work that brings you joy.
The moment a mother or father’s stress/fear melt away when you tell them their child is going to be ok, no matter how simple or complex the problem may have been, will never get old to me.
